• Monica Crowley has written a gem of a book detailing aspects of the last four years of Richard Nixon's life. Born in 1968, the year of RN's first presidential victory, the young author served as foreign policy assistant to the 37th president during those last years,1990-4. What strikes the reader is the fact that Nixon was always the man in the arena. Although he resigned the presidency in 1974 RN continued to be a significant influence in foreign policy due to the sagacious advice he gave to his successors, both in public speeches, articles and books as well as in private briefings and memorandums.To use a showjumping analogy, he may no longer have been the man in the saddle, after 1974, but he was still in the arena constructing the course and putting a few others over the jumps! This is also a book about books. Nixon was a prolific author and Crowley worked on his last two books, 'Seize the Moment' and 'Beyond Peace,'. The author outlines the energy and passion of RN in his preparation of these publications.. Crowley divides her book into neat compartments. Thus, under the heading Nixon and the World, there are chapters on the end of the Cold War, China, the Gulf War and the legacy of Vietnam.There is also interesting chapters under Scandal and Reflections. The Nixon- haters will hate this book because it does not portray RN as the Devil, a fascist, evil or any other of the highly biased descriptions that this highly intelligent man and political strategist had to constantly endure throughout his political life. However, neither has Crowley simply written a puff-job on her former boss. She shows Nixon railing against his old enemies-Democrats, liberals, the media and even his own Republican side but there is also humour in RN's outbursts that frequently had me chuckling.Indeed, even though I work in the Australian media, it is hard not to sympathise with some of Nixon's allegations of continual media bias that he considered dated back to the Hiss affair. Above all Crowley has produced a lively read of America's GOP, (grand old pol), in the winter of his life, that allows the reader to make their own decisions on this complex political figure-surely a refreshing change from the ravings of some writers who attempt to reduce Nixon to the same level as themselves. In doing so, and in using an insider's knowledge of the man, Ms Crowley has provided much winter warmth.
• I have been fascinated with the life of Richard Nixon ever since we visited his library and birthplace. Although Mr. Nixon is the only American president to resign from that high office, he just may have been our country's greatest statesman. This is the second book about the president written by Monica Crowley. Her observations of the man continue to amaze me. Nixon was many things, including very funny at times. But above all, he worked hard after leaving the White House to attain redemption. He was truly an exceptional man.
• When I read that MSNBC was going to have Monica Crowley co-host a show with Ronald Reagan several months ago, I did a Google search and was pleased (and surprised) to see that she had actually wrote a follow-up to her first (and brief) book about her experiences as an aid to Richard Nixon in the years leading up to his death. This book is rather lengthy but in a good way since it offers a generous, nuanced look at our 37th President.
  
  My guess is that Nixon would not have approved of all that Ms. Crowley writes about although Ms. Crowley rationalizes that Nixon must have known that she would write about her experiences with him.
  
  Crowley's Nixon seems obsessed with justifying most of the decisions and actions that he took in his political career, especially the Presidential years. While we will never know for sure, Ms. Crowley does seem very successful in capturing the parts of Nixon that we never saw in public especially his "obsession" with improving his presidential legacy.
  
  What I found particularly interesting--and worth the read alone--is Nixon's continued belief, right up until he died,that he was absolutely right to continue U.S. involvement in Vietnam for the first four years of his presidency. Nixon shows continued contempt (even in the 1990s) for those who chose not to serve in this cause (with special hostility for President Bill Clinton, whose victory over the first George Bush personally affronts him). Nixon also had plenty of contempt for the Congress for not allowing President Ford to "save" the cause in 1975 when North Vietnam would finally prevail.
  
  I'm not sure that even Ms. Crowley is aware of how successful she is in putting the reader through long bouts of pain for those of us who lived through the sixties and early seventies with her vivid description of Nixon's reflections of how he wanted to prevail over the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong in South Vietnam in spite of the fact that this longest war in our history was tearing much of our country apart.
  
  In fact, Ms. Crowley suggests that Mr. Nixon--even with hindsight--would unfortunately fight the Vietnam War in exactly the same way even though almost 20,000 more men died in a losing cause under "his watch"--most of whom were draftees.
  
  So, if your politics need a passion fix--or if the old Nixon hostility has left you and you think you want it back--consider reading this old chestnut of a book and I promise you that you will get your political currents rejuvenated and approach today's current events with much more vigor and perception.

Nixon stands heads and shoulders above our politicians today in insight and intelligence. Very well written by a closed aide.
• For all his faults, Richard Nixon remains a fascinating study. I have read many books on Mr. Nixon, and this one, in addition to being well-written, is the only one that details the behind the scenes story of his final years and abrubt death. This book remains a valuable addition to the Nixon story and even 20 years after his death, I have come across no more detailed depictions of Mr. Nixon's final years. A must read for any student of Nixon.
• I got a pleasant surprise when the book arrived. It is an autographed copy!
• RICHARD NIXON is a tough read but well done. Ms. Crowley catches his persona well and shows his warts and wisdom. An excellent book for serious history readers. This is not for the knee jerk critics of Nixon.

• I was amazed at how Sara crammed so much valuable insight and intelligence into such a short easy read. The basic message I hear from Leadership Unchained that if I want to improve my organization’s performance, one thing I need to change is me and the way I go about leading.
  
  Sara clearly describes the what-and-how of the changes I need to make. The two changes which rang most true for me are my tendency to lead and act based on data, not intuition, and breaking free of my ingrained thinking and paradigms. Neither which I find easy to do, especially when everyone around me leads the same way.
  
  When I think of Sara and her coaching the words “unique” and “value” come to mind. Sara stands apart from this crowd in two important ways 1) she is a passionate student of coaching and how to create extraordinary performance in organizations, and 2) she asserts that we don’t create history-making performance by simply altering and improving systems, program or process; I can only create it by improving my ability to lead people. Unfortunately, nowhere in my education did anyone teach me how to do that.

A rejection of professional dogma of sorts! Read it...it just may help you break free from your old ideas, gain a new perspective and free you from the chains that bind you.

• I downoaded it as soon as I was notified it was available as I had preordered it! I settled in and read the whole book in one setting! I just could not put it down! I do this with each and every one of Sarah Woodbury's After Cilmeri series books! I have read each of the books in this series 25+ times (I stopped counting with 25). I just love them! I get something new each time I reread one! Given time, I will read this one the same way!
  The characters of Michael and Livvia were very interesting and the more I read into the book, I could see them becoming a team and partners! It will be interesting as the story goes on what happens to them! The story is very, very intereting and answers some of the mystery left from the last book! But, leaves mystery going on from this book to the next one at the same time! In other words, the story continues! It just grabs you the first one in the series on to this end of this one and doesn't let go! Of course, now, I can't wait for the next book! LOL! Great job, Sarah Woodbury! • Where are the main characters? I have loved this series, but the last few books have been disappointing. The characters that made me fall in love with series we are getting less and less of. We mainly get the characters being bounced around like ping pong balls hitting the ground running when they time travel. Which means the things that make time travel stories are lost. There is never time for the medieval character to experience any of the modern conveniences. Then it's back to medieval time and more battles. We don't get any quality interaction between the main characters. They are rarely in the same space any length of time.
  Back to this book. What was the point? This book was about secondary characters (who I could care less about) not the main characters. David was only in it through flashbacks of previous book. The rest of the family had maybe two chapters in the entire book. The only family member featured was little Cadell. Reminded me of the last Gweneth and Gareth book that never featured Gweneth or Gareth! Left me wanting.
• Wonderful book in the series! I cannot understand why anybody would not think so. Exciting, as always, and the climax was AWESOME! Go Livia! I fisted to the ceiling on that one. Love the way Sarah does that. You DO need to read Shades of Time, then Champions of Time first to get the whole story, and each one is a whole book, so it can’t be just one huge book. Things going on are going on simultaneously, which is understandable since we have Earth One and Earth Two we are dealing with. I don’t know how Sarah does it, to tie things together so well, and give the FULL story. There is time travel going on, adjustments for both those who are “Twenty-firsters” as they call themselves, and those who are Medieval characters that fall into the future. Those of us who love and appreciate Sarah Woodbury’s writing, imagination, and story telling can’t wait for each book to come out. I personally would LOVE to see this After Cilmeri series made into a TV series like they have done with Outlander and Game of Thrones. It has a different tone and excellent cast of characters. NO SEX! It just isn’t necessary because the stories and plots stand by themselves. There is always romance with the main characters, but the intensity of the battles to be fought, the intrigue and the thoughts and feelings of the characters are what drives the stories forward. And the HUMOR! Can you imagine just how funny someone from the future might encounter situations that when they are facing something, the humor of the situation just might come out? Sarah does this throughout her books, and I for one, just love the way she manages to always bring the emotions out in the reader. I own each and every book and have re-read the series over 3 times, starting on my 4th, now that I have read all the books.
• Sarah’s done again. Excellent book. Lost of fast action. Plot keeps you thinking and on your toes. Mystery to figure out. some old characters finally taken care of. I can’t wait to see what happens next in earth two. I like the way the last few books happened concurrently.
• This is a great story tying together several of the last few books in the "After Climeri" series by Sarah Woodbury. Historical and contemporary settings, time travel, intrigue, adventure, featuring some of our loved characters from the series and introducing and developing an understanding of those we knew but had been somewhat in the background. I couldn't put it down... I will go back for another leisurely read soon and am very eager for the Audible version which always brings another layer of enjoyment to the story. Fans don't miss out on this one and those who have not read this series before... DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and read them all! You will be like the rest of us who hang out for our next adventure in between Medieval Wales and the present day to check in our favorite group of world shifters!
• This whole series is so well-done! The writing is taut and clean, the plot is logical and fits real human psychology, the characters are varied and unique and the story very rarely moves in the direction that you expect, based on the same-old formulas that TV, movies and less-skilled writers use.
  
  This adventure occurs almost exclusively in Avalon (our modern world). The author correctly identifies a great danger in the ability to travel between universes - that the evil-doers of our world would attempt to transport to this other universe with 21st century weapons and lay it waste/take it over. Unimaginable horror. And totally predictable behavior from unscrupulous corporations (are there any other kinds?) and people. If the other universe is to have a chance to evolve on its own path, it needs to be protected.
  
  The inevitable bratty-kid who insists on trying to universe-switch himself. Some new modern characters. It's all edge of your seat excitement interspersed with the usual charming moments that this author does so well.
